, we begin with a massive winter storm that made holiday travel miserable for millions of americans, including me! winter storm euclid -- what, are we naming snowstorms now? euclid. you can lid? well, euclid blanketed much of the eastern half of the country yesterday, dropping blizzard-like conditions and record snowfall in the midwest, and by late afternoon, euclid moved northeast, bringing traffic to a standstill, forcing the cancellation of more than 1,500 flights on one of the busiest travel days of the year. the weather channel's mike seidel has more on the massive christmas storm. >> reporter: a major snowstorm has dumped over a foot of snow across parts of the midwest. indiana got hit hard. high winds adding to the misery there. >> it's a lot better with the four-wheel-drive, but it, yeah, it's definitely a doozy out there. >> reporter: and there's lots of snow in little rock, too. folks there had the snowiest christmas ever with nine inches. and it's making getting anywhere almost impossible. ice is coating windshields, branches and power lines. >> we're going to make the be

. it has been a wet, cold and miserable day for many across the bay area. here are tonight's storm watch headlines. in east palo alto, the creek over flowed its banks and the water spilled out on to highway 1. it was so bad actually highway 101. it was so bad the chp had to escort cars through temporarily. the concern now is whether levies will hold in the area. two nearby homes have been evacuated. in napa county, sonoma creek was water logged and spilled over. the junction of highway 12 and 121 turn need a lake and the nearby vineyards were flooded. 18 feet is the river's flood stage. in santa cruz county, the water rose so fast about 40 families in the community of felton grove had to leave their homes. the san lorenzo river reached four feet over flood stage. a tree fell over some power lines and knocking out electricity to the nearby communities. and water coming down from the hills forced the closure of an exit of the richmond parkway. the water filled up the giant highway and spilled into the parkway. >>> police in watsonville are trying to track down someone they believe intentio

, it would help the republican candidates. it didn't work, but they sure tried and they made life miserable on election day for millions of americans who were just trying to do their civic duty. too many people stood in long lines. too many people were unable to vote because they couldn't wait in long lines. in florida, for example, published reports indicate some voters waited in line as long as seven hours. couldn't cast their ballots until 2:30 in the morning. now, why would a voter hang in there? some of them were just mad, mad that the state of florida and this republican-inspired organization, alec, was doing everything it could to deny their right to vote, and they were darned determined to do it, even if it meant staying there seven hours, seven hours to vote. too many people were required to cast provisional ballots when they were, in fact, eligible and should have received a regular ballot. pennsylvania, for example, issued double the number of provisional ballots it did in 2008. now, the provisional ballot is given to a voter where there is some question as to their eligibility.
